چکیده

We report the optical and dielectric properties in hafnium (Hf)-doped lithium niobate (LN) crystals. We investigated samples of congruent composition with various doping concentration varying from 0 to 8 mol%. The clamped and unclamped values of the electrooptic coefficient r22 of Hf-doped LN and the corresponding dielectric permittivity as well, have been experimentally determined and compared with the results obtained in undoped congruent LN crystals. We show that the electro-optic and dielectric properties are only slightly affected by the introduction of hafnium ions and therefore Hf-doped LN has the advantage of low photorefractive damage if compared with undoped congruent LN. Fabrication of p-type lithium niobate crystals by molybdenum doping and polarization

The lack of p-type lithium niobate limits it serving as an active material. A series of Mo-doped and pure congruent lithium niobate crystals were grown by Czochralski method under different polarization conditions. Their dominant carrier species were characterized by holographic experiment. The results showed dominant charge carrier species may be changed from electrons to holes when lithium ni...

The effect of titanium dioxide and molybdenum oxide on the properties of sodium potassium niobate piezoceramic

Sodium potassium niobate piezoceramics are considered as lead-free piezoelectric due to their good properties. In this study, the effect of titanium dioxide and molybdenum oxide as dopant on the densification behavior, piezoelectric and dielectric properties of lithium doped sodium potassium niobate ((K0.5Na0.5)0.94Li0.06NbO3, KNNL) was investigated. For this purpose, (K0.5Na0.5)0.94Li0.06Nb0.9...

Recent Advances in the Photorefraction of Doped Lithium Niobate Crystals

The recent advances in the photorefraction of doped lithium niobate crystals are reviewed. Materials have always been the main obstacle for commercial applications of photorefractive holographic storage. Though iron-doped LiNbO3 is the mainstay of holographic data storage efforts, several shortcomings, especially the low response speed, impede it from becoming a commercial recording medium. Thi...

Elements of Electromagnetic Theory, Anisotropic Media, and Light Modulation by the Linear Electro-Optic Effect

The purpose of this note is to introduce the linear electro-optic effect (Pockels effect) and its applications for modulating the properties of a light wave, such as its phase, polarisation and intensity. For this purpose, basic electromagnetic theory is first reviewed. Some elements of light propagation in an anisotropic medium are then introduced. The linear electro-optic effect is then prese...

Dielectric properties of lithium niobate single crystals doped with gadolinium

In this paper dielectric properties of LiNbO3:Gd single crystals at temperatures ~ 290–490 K at narrow frequency range (0.5–10 6 Hz) are presented. The influence of growth conditions was also investigated. The anomalies on dielectric plots depend on the development of the microand nano-domain structure.
